What is Folkstyle Wrestling

Folkstyle Wrestling is the form of Wrestling that is practiced mostly in American high schools and colleges. It is also known as collegiate wrestling. The object of folkstyle wrestling is to pin your opponent. Failing this, you want to get as many points as possible. Folkstyle scoring focuses mainly on changes in control. Taking an opponent down to the mat, escaping from or reversing control, or turning an opponent's back to the mat are all scoring situations. This differs from other styles such as Freesytle or Greco Roman, which do not encourage escapes or reversals.

WELCOME TO THE FOREST LAKE FOLKSTYLE

Dear Wrestler and Family:

Another wrestling season will soon be upon us! We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the Forest Lake Wrestling Club and to provide you with some important NEW registration procedures for the 2011-2012 season.

NEW THIS YEAR!!!
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED!!!

The FLWC is moving to pre-registration of wrestlers this year. This is to help facilitate a smooth first day of practice, provide apparel to the wrestlers in a timely manner and help us know how many wrestlers we can expect for the season. Please see the registration form attached to this letter for more information. Checks or money orders are accepted.

Be sure to register early!!! Rates do increase after the October 27th deadline!!!

You will need to submit two separate payments, one for the registration and another for the volunteer fee. (We hold onto the volunteer fee and only cash them at the end of the season if volunteer hours are not fulfilled.) More information on the volunteer opportunities will be provided at a parent meeting.

FAQ’s:

Which session should I register my wrestler for? Community Ed or FLWC?
A: First year or young second year wrestlers can signup for the Community Ed wrestling opportunity. You can signup for the CE sessions at: www.communityed4u.org. These sessions are designed for the first time wrestler and will go at a beginner pace.
For FLWC wrestlers, coaches will evaluate and put wrestlers in the proper time slot, based on experience and wrestling skill. FLWC wrestlers will get to participate in local tournaments and be a part of the FLWC Wrestling Team.

What if I have multiple children in the FLWC?
A: You receive a $10.00 discount/per child. For example, the first child would be $130.00, the second child $120.00, the third child $110.00, etc.

We look forward to spending another wrestling season with you! If you have questions, please contact us at 651-491-9890 or jenniferpierce@oppamn.com
